10 Day Smoothie Challenge

There are so many types of smoothies you can  make and choose, if you stop by a smoothie bar.  There are fruit smoothies , fruit and veggie smoothies , meal replacement smoothies and protein smoothies.

You do have to watch your smoothie intake if you are counting calories. Meal replacement and protein smoothies can pack in a lot of calories , when you get them from a smoothie bar.

Smoothies help with body cleansing , detox  and loosing weight.

Here is my 10 Day Smoothie experience

I detox 24-48 hours before I start my smoothie challenge. I drink 2 jugs of water infused with slices of cucumber , lemon ,lime , mint leaves , grapefruit , and a light meal . Most important, I take vitamins the whole time. You don’t want to loose any nutrients the body needs. This avoids being nauseous and fatigued.

The Formula :

Breakfast : Smoothie

Lunch : Smoothie

Dinner: Light meal ( lean meat and a Veggie ) eat before 7p or 8p

Snack : Smoothie

1 hour walk or work out

I use a frozen fruit mix , fresh banana, spinach and yogurt for my smoothies . This bag was purchased at Walmart.

The Mix : Use a powerful blender that has the smoothie option .

Use the frozen fruit , purified water , banana ,spinach , or any type of fruit you like . To make your smoothie have a sweet taste , you can use dates , prunes & nectors.

Eat light meals . Here is a few I had. Vegan Tacos ( made with seasoned cauliflower  & Sered Salmon on a Salad. Mix of Lima beans , corn & okra . Baked chicken & broccoli. Follow @senelebody & @soayyasnotachef on IG for meal ideas )

Why do people remove DAIRY from their diet?

IMG_4404There are a few reasons why people stop their diary intake. Most people who are on a WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY, have often said this is the first thing they did.

Some people do it for HEALTH reason . They may need to drop some calories , cholesterol & high blood pressure level.  This is due to recommendations from their Dr.

Some people are simply LACTOSE INTOLERANT. Now be clear, there is being LACTOSE INTOLERANT & LACTOSE ALLERGY.  It is also said , that the digestive system of African Americans , Native Americans , Arabs, Hispanics , and Asians, were not designed to digest diary.

Now lets get into it. Here are the main dairy products and what they bring to the HUMAN BODY.

MILK

It said to be high in calcium and is to be good for the bones. However , Whole milk is high  in fat. Try 1 % , or Substitute with Soy Milk. Milk doesn’t really cause weight gain , unless you are exceeding your daily calorie intake. Will cause cramps, bloating , flatulence and nausea if you are Lactose Intolerant or Allergic.

CHEESE

Contains protein , calcium, zinc, magnesium, vitamin A, vitamin B12, and produces red blood cells. However , high in fat , calories and sodium.

BUTTER

Contains saturated fats . May cause high Cholesterol level and risk of heart disease. Margarine is made from vegetable oil so it may contain “good” fats but also trans fat which is not good.

SOUR CREAM

Percentage of fat is high, total amount isn’t. Saturated fat is bad for high cholesterol levels. The other fats , monounsaturated & polyunsaturated are healthier fats. A serving of Sour Cream is 2 tablespoons . That’s  52 calories.

YOGURT

Is a good source of calcium, protein , riboflavin, & potassium. However plain yogurt contains about 16 grams of sugar, flavored yogurt contains about 15 more grams. WHEW!! Better to choose a fat-free , low-fat or Greek Yogurt.  If you are looking to loose weight and use yogurt as a source , adding extras can actually turn your small serving into a meal. Fruits, nuts , honey , granola ect. , can add on extra sugar and calories. BE CAREFUL.

ICE CREAM

Is made up of cream, milk and sometimes egg and other fats , churn to make a frozen dessert. Can contain high amounts of saturated fats and sugar.This  can elevate LDL ( low-density lipoprotein or “bad cholesterol. Contains triglycerides, a type of fat that can clog arteries. 1 scoop can have 19 grams of fat, 12 grams of saturated fat, and about 300 calories . GOOD LORD!!! Better to try a low fat frozen dessert like  Sorbet & Sherbet.

SOO, to sum all this up. Everything should be done in moderation. Watch your sugar , calorie , trans and saturated fat intake. Find ways to make your own foods, that way you know what is in it.  *Speak with your Dr. at your regular visits about what is best for your diet and health*.

New Year ..Same You?

So it’s 2017..365 days to get it right, get it started, get it done or get it over with, right?

The last few months of the year, we are trying to figure out what we need to do to get us into the new year. Pump ourselves up that the new year will be better than the last!!  You know , ‘NEXT YEAR IS MY YEAR’!! ” I’M CLAIMING IT THIS YEAR” !! It’s all good the first few months, for some the first few days , then  that NEW YEAR NEW ME is out the window. You know it is true.

But WHY is that? Why can most of us can KEEP that momentum and most of us LOOSE it? It’s our mindset. Our way of thinking. Allowing fear, doubt , and outside negativity to take control of our thoughts, and block our blessing..missing our purpose.

We have been given a divine purpose here on earth. Some of us haven’t even tapped into what that purpose is . We are so unsure of ourselves, second guessing the possibilities , psyching out our own selves. We use EVERY excuse on why we can’t do something , instead of using all the reasons why we CAN.

No matter WHAT our situation may be , ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!! We have to want it , need it , believe it and achieve it .

Get out of debt, clear up bad credit , get out of a bad relationship, cut off meaningless friendships ( change your circle), be around people who are where you WANT to be , find your peace of mind, and  your happiness .  GET A PASSPORT AND TRAVEL. It is sooo therapeutic. I took my own advice lol .

Bottom line , we have to CHANGE the way we think and do things, to get a different result. Some of us get too comfortable in current situations, & feel that that’s all there is to life….Work, pay bills & die..Sorry but that is NOT living . If that’s what you were doing in 2016, and in 2018, you see you had the same situations in 2017.. then it was a NEW YEAR..SAME YOU.

What is your definition of being healthy? Is it being able to get up each day and do things you love to do , or maybe because your not over weight  , or is it simple the fact you don’t feel sick ?

A lot of people feel that because they aren’t sick , or over weight and can get up each day , means they are healthy . That is TOTALY NOT TRUE. For example , some one will just randomly pass away and no one knows why. Friends and family will say” But they were so healthy ” . Well, we’re they REALLY healthy?

How do we know if we are healthy or not ? Do will LOOK healthy ? Do we FEEL healthy ? What do we do to find out if we are or are not healthy ?

First and for most , GET REGULAR CHECK UPS WITH YOUR DR. & DENTIST

Things to get checked and tested for at the Dr office

  1. WEGHT
  2. BLOOD PRESSURE
  3. HIV
  4. BREAST EXAMES
  5. COLONOSCOPY
  6. CERVIX
  7. SICKLE CELL and many more

Get regular check ups at the DENTIST .. Your dental hygiene can tell ALOT about your body

What I’ve learned , is that most of the things we EAT and USE on a daily basis makes us SICK & UNHEALTHY. What can we do about it?

  1.  EDCUATE YOURSELF
  2. CHANGE EATING HABITS ( shop different : buy more FRESH veggies and produce . Go to meat and fish markets instead of buying packed , frozen & can foods. Go Vegan or vegetarian  ) You don’t need a diet if your eating healthier.
  3. DRINK ALKALINE WATER
  4. USE NATURAL PRODUCTS ( soaps , tooth paste , oils , Shea butters , hair & skin care )
  5. DETOX regularly ( check my past blogs on detox methods )
  6. EXFOLIATE YOUR SKIN
  7. GET OVER 8 HOURS OF SLEEP
  8. EXCERSISE
  9. BE STILL ( take time out each day to do NOTHING , think about NOTHING ) a form of meditation, get your peace
  10. THINK & BE POSITVE ..CHANGE YOUR MINDSET
  11. RELEASE ANY TOXIC THINGS & RELATIONSHIPS , FRIENDS ECT FROM YOUR LIFE. ( a lot times the people around us cause stress , un happiness , brings negative enegery and can make us sick )
  12. ORGANIZE YOUR LIFE , & FINANCES

No matter what your situation is , even if you have been DIAGNOSED with an ILLNESS .. STILL do everything to keep yourself HEALTHY . Don’t be afraid to ask questions about your illness and share with others . You never know how your story can help someone else .

Most importantly, LOVE YOURSELF enough to want what’s best for YOU .

” 100 POUNDS DOWN” Featuring Actress YOLANDA SLOCUMB 

My name is Yolanda Brown I started out weighing 245 pounds, my current weight as of today is 165 pounds. I’ve lost 80 pounds and kept it off for 14 years. I do have a remainder 20 pounds that I would like to lose.
* QUESTION: WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO LOOSE WEIGHT ?
ANSWER: Back in 2001 I always felt confident in myself. I always thought I was pretty, but I was never comfortable in my own skin. I didn’t have any health problems YET, but I could never do anything without getting out of breath. I was on my way out to hang with friends. Me and my good friend went out shopping for something to wear for that night and I struggle to find something to wear. I finally found a pair of pants that was a size 22, and I had a hard time buttoning the pants up. I was pushing on a size 24 at that moment I knew I had to do something. My pants size was more than my age, and I was 21 at the time. Like I said I always felt pretty but not comfortable. I made a decision that day to change my life.
*QUESTION:WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO START LOOSING THE WEIGHT?
ANSWER: I was new to this I knew nothing about losing weight, but I did know what foods was good for me and what wasn’t. I started going to the gym and at that time it was called Run and Shoot. I will go have a hard workout for an hour and a half and then leave and go to Krystal and get some Krystal burger. I figured Hey I had a good workout I can afford to eat this. I did this for a week and then I said to myself why am I doing this to myself what’s the point in working out and then leaving the gym and eat bad. At that moment I said to myself I’m going to do this and not eat bad anymore and work out hard, and that’s exactly what I did from that moment on. I cut out fried foods, soda, sweets, beef, and pork. And I started eating salad, fish, vegetables, oatmeal, and lots of fruit. Eating healthy became a part of my life. I worked out 6 days a week doing aerobic for a hour, weight training, Tae Bo and lots of walking. It worked for me. When I first started I wasn’t losing any weight, but I wasn’t going to let that discourage me. After a month pass by I lost my first seven pounds and it was all downhill after that the weight just started dropping off of me. It took me a year and 7 months to lose 100 pounds, and I kept that off for 12 years, and over the course of 2 years I gained 20 of those pounds back but for the most part I’ve kept most of it off. Weight loss is a struggle but keeping it off can be even harder but it can be done. I’m living proof of it.

For me I can’t say I did it for self confidence, so that I can feel comfortable in my own skin. I know it’s a struggle and it’s hard to get started but to anyone who is reading this you can do it. Start off doing something slow if you have to cut out one thing at a time whether it’s sweets, or fried foods cut out one thing at a time and get your body used to the changes, and the same thing with exercising start off by walking and build your way up. Keep the focus and you will succeed if you are doing it for yourself. And Always, Always stay prayed up. “You can do it”

7 DAY HEALTHY CHALLANGE

IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN!!

imageAfter the 4th of July weekend , I’m sure we all enjoyed the BIG 4’s!! FRIENDS , FAMILY , FOOD & FUN!  Who didn’t take part in the cook outs , right ?! All the meats , sides , deserts & many fun alcoholic beverages . I’m sure SOME of us decided to make it to the gym , annnnd  SOME of us just didn’t make it lol !
